Why do many bassoonists buy their reeds and cane from
VIGDER'S BASSOON SUPPLIES?
1) All bassoon reeds are handmade over a period of 21 days with a gouging machine, profiling machine, two hands, files, and patience.
2) All reeds are tested before you receive them on a bassoon with real music and are not shipped to you unless I feel you can use them immediately.
3) All reeds are made with 21 gauge wire, which is slightly stronger than the the standard 22 gauge wire and which I feel will hold the blades and the entire reed in place better.
4) All other supplies are made in the same meticulous manner as the finished bassoon reeds.
5) For over 30 years you will note the modest and reasonable prices of my high quality work. Keep in mind that each reed has three weeks of labor built into it; not just a twenty minute slap-dash job as commercially-made reeds are often made.
6) If you have never ordered from me before, I have been making reeds for Edmund Nielsen Woodwinds, Inc. since 1988; Forrest's Music in Berkeley since 1998; for the President's Own Marine Band ( www.marineband.usmc.mil ) since 1990; for many university bassoon teachers throughout the country since 1976.
7) Please understand that you can order ANYTHING from the entire catalog and I will make whatever you desire from the catalog---some people think I only make the "sale reeds" and not everything else---I DO make everything on the web site.
